ROBERT J. O’BRIEN is an Associate at Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC and a member of the Construction Group. Robert focuses his practice on complex commercial and construction litigation.

Robert concentrates on representing and guiding clients through the litigation process. He has represented corporations, general contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers, insurance companies, and material suppliers in multiple jurisdictions during all aspects of trial and alternative dispute resolution, from pre-complaint and discovery through verdict or settlement, as well as post-trial motions and appeals. Robert regularly assists owners, contractors, and design-builders with contract drafting and negotiation, bid protests, injunctions, bond claims, and mechanics’ liens. As part of his alternative dispute resolution practice, Robert serves as a court-appointed arbitrator for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

Robert is a regular contributor to the Firm’s newsletter, Construction in Brief, as well as the Firm’s construction blog, Construction Law Now. He has also lectured on several legal subjects, including construction contract provisions and construction claims.

Prior to joining Cohen Seglias, Robert worked as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Linda K. M. Ludgate. During law school, he served as a law clerk at the United States Sentencing Commission and the Investigations Office of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. He has clerked in the general counsel’s office of a large labor union and participated in Georgetown’s Federal Legislation Clinic. 

In 2014, Robert was inducted into the Leaders Circle of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Delaware Valley Chapter. Robert has served as the youngest member of the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. In 2004, Robert was elected the youngest delegate in the United States to the Democratic National Convention. Robert is also a proud member of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan.
