Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman has added two attorneys to its Pittsburgh office, the firm announced Monday, doubling the office's head count and expanding the firm's oil and gas practice.

Brian Lawton joined the office as a partner. He was previously a partner at Smith Butz in Canonsburg, where he represented both operators and landowners in oil and gas matters.

"I was doing oil and gas work before it was big in Pennsylvania," he said.

Lawton will bring client contacts to the firm, he said, particularly in the southwestern part of the state. He said he also expects to reach into central and northeastern Pennsylvania with his practice, thanks to Cohen Seglias' established offices in Harrisburg and Philadelphia.

Roy Cohen, founder and president of the firm, said Lawton, who has been more involved in representing landowners, will be joining attorneys in the energy utility practice who have primarily represented energy producers and operators.

"Brian brings with him very good skills in the area of business transactions and corporate work," Cohen said. "These business transactions, especially involving landowners, are a hot topic right now."
