Shan Wu spoke to Fox News on behalf of his client, Mimi Groves, a student forced to withdraw from the University of Tennessee following the release of a video where she used a racial slur. The video was initially taken when she was 15 years old but then released by a fellow student after she had announced her admission to the University of Tennessee, where she hoped to join the school’s cheer team. Shan noted that “Mimi was a kid when she did this,” and that “[s]he’s appalled and … she’s not trying to excuse it in any way — and what she lost was her dream. Like many athletes, she had worked most of her young adult life for this shot at going to a great school and being on their team.”
The matter is also covered in a New York Times article, “A Racial Slur, a Viral Video, and a Reckoning.”
