- Obtained $3.6 million arbitration judgment on behalf of government contractor in dispute concerning the acquisition of a business division.
- Obtained summary judgment in favor of government contractor in a $10 million dispute concerning allegations of breach of contract and fraud arising from a software licensing finance agreement.
- Served for over a year as the on-site attorney for a $1.4 billion infrastructure project located in Northern Virginia. Work performed included reviewing and revising change order proposals, drafting and negotiating project-related agreements, and analyzing correspondence and schedule submissions for contract compliance.
- Drafted and negotiated construction and design contracts for numerous multi-million-dollar projects, including the negotiation of construction contracts for two medical facilities with a combined value in excess of $1 billion.
- Obtained a plea in bar judgment dismissing a $1.5 million subcontractor lawsuit due to lack of necessary licensure.
- Counseled clients on a wide variety of employment issues and successfully defended against claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and various state commissions.
- Obtained judgment in favor of a grounds maintenance subcontractor in dispute with government prime contractor, and defended appeal thereof to the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Matt is a construction attorney representing owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and architects in construction disputes and contract negotiations. He has broad experience litigating disputes concerning differing site conditions, material escalation, design and product defects, delay claims, and out-of-scope work, as well as negotiating and drafting contract terms addressing these potential issues.
Additionally, he represents clients in complex government contract and commercial disputes, and has successfully litigated matters before the courts of Virginia, the District of Columbia, and numerous other state and federal courts. Matt counsels clients on government procurement issues and has successfully pursued, and defended against, bid protests under both federal and state procurement laws. He also counsels employers on a variety of employment issues and represents clients before federal and state commissions.
Before joining Cohen Seglias, Matt worked for 12 years at a law firm in Tysons Corner, Virginia specializing in construction and government contract disputes.
