Family Law
Our Family Law Group provides client-centered service in every interaction by putting time and personalized attention into each case. We understand that family law issues are delicate and stressful, so we work to understand each client’s unique situation, providing strategic counsel with compassion to come to a positive resolution.
Our team is also equipped to help individuals charged with a criminal or municipal offense, working to protect the rights of the accused and ensure fair treatment throughout the process.
Alternative Dispute Resolution
The family law attorneys at Cohen Seglias are proponents of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)—or what is known as collaborative divorce. As our clients know, we believe in divorce without drama, and our team works toward helping clients meet their goals by encouraging the parties involved to work together. Collaborative divorce can be an effective approach to resolving divorce, as difficult issues can be assessed without exacerbating the conflicts a family may be facing.
We also turn to mediation and arbitration, as both methods of resolution allow clients to avoid litigation. Often, mediation and arbitration enable more creative and amicable solutions to families’ complex issues and can alleviate some of the emotional and financial stress often associated with litigation. Even in contentious relationships, mediation works for most couples as the process is focused on the benefits of compromise. Our Group serves clients in this process, with experience handling issues of the present while helping the parties plan for the future. Arbitration may also be beneficial to litigants as it can expedite the divorce process, avoid the public eye of a courtroom, and provide a neutral space for parties to move at their own pace with less pressure as they resolve the distribution of assets and debts, alimony, child support, custody and parenting time, among other issues.
When a matter cannot be resolved amicably and does require litigation, our experienced trial attorneys represent clients in all hearings and proceedings, including settlement discussions as well as trials.
We represent clients in the areas of:
- Alimony
- Appeals
- Child custody, including removal actions to another state or country
- Child support
- College contribution

Our attorneys are also familiar with the criminal defense process and municipal court issues including assault, bias crimes, burglary, theft, juvenile law, possession and distribution of drugs or drug paraphernalia, possession of weapons, sexual offenses, child abuse or neglect, domestic violent expungements, driver’s license suspensions, as well as DWI/DUI.
We take a holistic approach to help clients navigate investigations, the grand jury processes, and trial presentations.
If trial is necessary, our team is prepared to present a full-fledged defense, including the filing of motions, utilizing expert witnesses, and conducting an independent investigation.
