Ethics in Action: Kayden’s Law and New Custody Statute
Carolyn Daly will present “Ethics in Action: Kayden’s Law and Custody Statute – A Follow-Up Discussion” for the New Jersey Association for Marriage and Family Therapy’s (NJAMFT). The program will examine New Jersey’s amended custody statute and the federal law known as Kayden’s Law, with a focus on how evolving legal standards surrounding child safety, domestic violence, reunification treatment and court-ordered therapy may affect marriage and family therapists. Drawing on her experience as a family law attorney, mediator and arbitrator, Carolyn will discuss the intersection of custody litigation, ethical obligations and mental health practice, including practical considerations related to confidentiality, informed consent, court involvement and the role of therapists in high-conflict family matters.
