Christopher Carusone is presenting at the Association of Corporate Counsel of Central Pennsylvania (ACC of Central PA) In-House Lawyer All Day CLE Program. He will discuss how general contractors can protect themselves from getting in trouble during government investigations and the fine line between aggressive advocacy and obstruction of justice during federal and state investigations.
In his presentation, Chris will begin with a discussion of the elements of obstruction charges under both federal and Pennsylvania law. And then explore the act of giving legal advice, the ethical limits imposed on counsel when giving advice, and whether it offers any legal safe harbor to allegations of obstruction of justice. Next, Chris will lead a discussion of several examples of prosecutions of corporate counsel for obstruction-related charges. Finally, the program will conclude with a discussion of how corporate counsel can aggressively and ethically deal with prosecutors and investigators without personally running afoul of the law themselves.
