As part of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) 2017 Legislative Week’s Legal Conference in Washington, DC, Cohen Seglias partner Marc Furman spoke on the panel, “Employment Law Developments in 2017,” on June 23. The ABC Legal Conference gave one the opportunity to advance their legal knowledge and share ideas with peers from across the nation. This content-rich program covered the latest legal developments and insights impacting labor law and open competition in the construction industry.
The speakers covered recent employment law decisions, rule-makings, and guidance with a focus on state and federal discrimination, wage and hour and leave laws. Attendees learned about employment discrimination rulings, the Obama administration’s revisions to the EEO-1 Report and the EEOC’s Enforcement Guidance on Retaliation and Related Issues. In addition, local and state updates on paid leave laws, class-action litigation over travel time, meal and rest breaks in construction and equal pay measures were discussed.
