Cohen Seglias Creates New Role To Lead AI Implementation
By: Kevin Penton
Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC has created a new position of artificial intelligence partner, shifting its former chair of its government contracting group into the role, it announced Monday.
Michael Payne will be responsible for integrating advanced AI tools into Cohen Seglias’ operations and examining predictive analytics for ways to direct various legal strategies, according to the firm’s announcement.
The Philadelphia-based Payne will also be charged with identifying how AI can best optimize document reviews and enhance legal research, with an eye on collaboration between the firm’s leadership and its AI and information technology committees, according to Cohen Seglias.
“These sophisticated tools do not serve as a substitute for human judgment, which is critical to the practice of law, so our goal is to ethically leverage our use of AI to serve the best interests of our clients,” Payne said in a statement Monday.
Payne previously worked with subcontractors, contractors and suppliers on a broad range of federal contracting issues, such as resolving disputes, preparing contract claims and interpreting solicitation and contract provisions, according to the firm. He had previously served as chief trial attorney for the North Atlantic Division of the Army Corps of Engineers and worked closely with dredging contractors throughout the country, according to Cohen Seglias.
