Greater Philadelphia Law Firm Leaders Say They’re Focused On Hiring and M&A in 2023

Our new managing partner Steven Williams shared our firm’s biggest accomplishments in 2022 and the firm’s plans to continue that success into 2023 with the Philadelphia Business Journal.
“2022 was another year of growth and notable successes for the firm. We increased our headcount, and continued to close deals and resolve high stakes disputes on behalf of our clients. We carry into the new year the same philosophy that guides how we help clients: Solving problems is what we do, and our attorneys strive to be business partners and legal counsel, helping to find cost-effective, creative solutions to their issues. Recreating success, especially in a competitive market for law firms, is never easy, but, by continuing to provide our clients with responsive, practical guidance, I believe the firm can continue its growth and success.”
The Philadelphia Business Journal recently released our annual List of the 100 largest law firms operating in Greater Philadelphia, ranked by number of local attorneys.
On average, the law firms that have made the List since 2000 have had 61 local attorneys, 31 local partners and two local offices. After headcount at local law firms largely rebounded from losses suffered during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, the latest data shows another dip.
From 2020 to 2021, the total number of attorneys at these law firms decreased 3.5% from 6,175 lawyers to 5,958 before snapping right back last year with headcount increasing 3.4% to 6,165 attorneys. This year’s numbers show a total of 6,056 local attorneys at the region’s 100 largest firms, a decline of 1.7% year over year.
