We are proud to announce that Cohen Seglias is ranked seventh in the latest national rankings in Construction Executive’s “The Top 50 Construction Law Firms® of 2021.” Construction Executive, a leading industry publication, surveyed hundreds of law firms with dedicated construction practices throughout the United States. Factors in the rankings covered the general scope and breadth of the firm’s construction practice, including the number of construction attorneys; the number of states in which the firm is licensed to practice; and the year in which the construction practice was established.
In CE’s Top 50 publication, Cohen Seglias partner Tony Byler discusses potential contract pitfalls resulting from the pandemic’s impact on the construction landscape, and the importance of both owners and contractors remaining flexible. He recommends that “Owners need to be open to protective contract provisions—such as material escalation clauses—to encourage low competitive bids. Contractors must remain vigilant in providing notice of disruptions to protect rights to equitable relief. And owners need to remain flexible in addressing disruptions beyond the contractor’s control, making reasonable adjustments to ensure projects are completed promptly without unnecessary delay or claims.”
In the Executive Insights section, Evan Blaker comments on virtual testimony in construction litigation and arbitration, “I now believe that virtual hearings are here to stay, even as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic that plagued us through 2020.”
